Our Romantic Mountain Weekend in Asheville

December 14, 2018

We headed West to Asheville, NC on Friday morning, although a Winter Storm Warning was in effect. We weren’t going to let a little snow stop us. (Boy, were we wrong. We underestimated just how much snow there would be.)

On the way, we took a pit stop at Craggy Gardens for some beautiful pictures. Craggy Gardens ended up being closed for hazardous weather conditions but the surroundings still made for a wonderful excursion. Asheville is especially gorgeous in the Winter time.

After making it to our cabin, I wanted to spend some time settling in and exploring the location. We stayed at the Log Cabin Motor Court for the weekend. I actually have stayed here in the past and really enjoy their accommodations. The Cabins are too cute and great location to everything in Asheville. However, do keep in mind that the cabins are quite small and old. We woke up to a little rat hiding from the snow in our cabin Sunday… but we didn’t mind. If you enjoy camping, these cabins are perfect for you!

For dinner, we went to Tupelo Honey. Tupelo Honey is my ABSOLUTE favorite restaurant in Asheville. They sure do know how to do some good ol’ southern cooking. We ordered the warm pimento cheese for an appetizer, spiked hot cider, and the sweet potato pancake platter with fried chicken. Did I forget to mention they serve breakfast all day? Amazing. (The meal was so big we ended up having food for the next day. Score.)

I know Ryan loves Cider so I suggested we go to Urban Orchard Cidery. The place totally reminded us of our first date and it was just a sweet way to end the day. We both ordered a flight of 4 to try different ciders. In my opinion, their Sweet English cider is the best. Yet, it’s all still delicious! At this time, they have a seasonal Winter cider with hints of berries. Definitely try it if you get a chance.

Saturday, we had so many things scheduled but Asheville had other plans. We were going to go to Biltmore, Omni Grove, and the Arboretum but everything was shut down in preparation for the snowpocalypse. I refused to let this rain on our parade so we headed to the Sacred Mountain Sanctuary for some horseback riding. We got to ride for about an hour through Pisgah Forest until the mountains got too slippery for the horses to maneuver. We didn’t want to put anyone or the animals in danger.

That night, Asheville was a  ghost town so we stayed in our cabin and ordered pizza. Our cabin was appropriately named the Snuggle Inn. It was a cozy, snuggly night.

Our Asheville trip was cut short from the snow but we still had an amazing time. This is my favorite time of year to experience Asheville since they are so festive and decorative during the Holiday time. If you get the chance to visit, Biltmore is all decked out in Christmas decorations from now until January and the N.C. Arboretum hosts Winter Lights nightly for a small cost. Totally worth it.
