My parents went to St. Kitts for my mom’s birthday a couple years ago and LOVED their visit. She had been telling us we’d love the island too and she was right. St. Kitts was nothing short of amazing.

Rainforest
During our trip, Kait and I decided to explore beyond St. Kitts’ beautiful beaches. The rainforest makes up about 80% of the island so we took the day to explore it.
The beautiful mountains rise to over 3000 vertical feet and ancient sugar plantations carpet the foothills. Our tour guide stopped to show us various different plants natives use to heal sicknesses and tell us more about the environment.
Most of the water used to drink, bathe, cook, etc. in St. Kitts is collected through the rainforest.
Rum
Once we got to the top of the mountain, It was the perfect time for a rum break.
While altogether the Caribbean has the best rum, St. Kitts is known for great rum and offers rum tours every day. The island specializes in sugarcane growth and is proud of their history.
Additionally, the rainforest is owned by the government and therefore public land. People are allowed to travel to the rainforest and pick whatever herbs and food they may want. (That is if the monkeys don’t get to it first.)
On our way down the mountains and to the beach, we got to see one of the fourteen parishes on St. Kitts. St. Mary Cayon Parish is also one of the oldest parishes still standing in St. Kitts. Its doors opened in 1901.
Going down the mountain, there was a lovely breeze coming in from the water. At one point, you can even see where the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea meet. Totally one of my favorite memories from our whole adventure.
Relax
We ended up just going to a resort’s private beach for an hour or so. But if you’re traveling to St. Kitts, you should go to the beaches on Frigate Bay North.
Frigate Bay North is on the Atlantic side of the island, the quieter side, and has a superb white-sand beach. However, unlike Magens Bay in St. Thomas, St. Kitts has tons of little fishies swimming around!!
You also NEED to get a picture with a monkey during your trip.
The island is populated with tons of monkeys and are often trained for human-interaction. It may cost five dollars or so but it’s worth it! …Even though the monkey ended up breaking my sunglasses…
Overall, St. Kitt’s was a wonderful destination! I definitely want to go back and explore the island for longer than a day.
With an ample amount of time, I’d go check out the Romney Manor. An old sugar plantation dating back to 1626, with vibrant gardens and a centuries-old saman tree.
Have you ever visited St. Kitts? What was your favorite part of this beautiful tropical destination?
