Savannah Travel Guide 2024: Must-See Spots & Insider Tips

If you’re looking for a beautiful city with rich history, delicious food and friendly people, look no further than Savannah. This city is full of surprises, from its gorgeous architecture to the friendly locals. Here are some things to do on your trip:

Learn Savannah’s History
Savannah is a city that was built by the Spanish and one of Georgia’s oldest cities, having been founded in 1733. Savannah has many historic buildings that you can visit today–the most famous being Juliette Low’s house (who founded Girl Scouts).

While you’re there, consider taking a history tour to get a deeper understanding of the city’s past. Guided tours offer insights into Savannah’s colonial, antebellum and civil war eras, providing a comprehensive view of its rich history. Additionally, I highly recommend stopping by Savannah’s visitors center; it features a history museum where you can walk through exhibits that bring the city’s storied past to life.

Indulge in Delicious Food
Savannah also has a great food scene with lots of restaurants serving up Southern cuisine or seafood dishes from nearby coastal towns like Tybee Island. Some of my favorite eats in Savannah include The Olde Pink House, Vic’s On The River and Treylor Park.

The Olde Pink House offers a unique dining experience in an 18th-century mansion, featuring Southern cuisine with a modern twist. Vic’s On The River provides a scenic dining setting with views of the Savannah River, and it specializes in fresh, locally-sourced seafood and Southern dishes. While Treylor Park is known for its creative and eclectic menu, offering everything from gourmet comfort food to innovative cocktails.

Insider tip: Order the grilled apple pie sandwich with chicken at Treylor Park. I crave this sandwich 24/7. So good!

Other places to add to your list:

Have a Spooky Adventure
Ghost tours are a popular activity in Savannah, and they can be found all over town. These walking tours take you through some of the city’s most haunted places, including hotels and cemeteries. If you’re interested in taking a ghost tour, make sure your guide has experience with ghosts and knows how to keep them at bay. Pay attention to their advice on photographing ghosts, as they may have tricks up their sleeves that will help capture these elusive spirits on camera.

Visit A Museum
There are tons of great to visit in Savannah. The Telfair Museums are located in one building that houses three different museums: The Jepson Center for the Arts which features permanent collections from Impressionist painters like Monet and Van Gogh; The Owens-Thomas House & Museum where you can find furniture from the 18th century; and Telfair Academy of Arts & Sciences which houses American art since 1733 as well as photography exhibits by local artists

Where should I stay?
There are hotels in Savannah for every budget and any preference. The DeSoto, one of my favorite hotels in Savannah, offers luxurious amenities like turn-down service and complimentary coffee in the morning. It’s also located right near City Market which makes it easy to get around town on foot or by bike!

I’ve also stayed at the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District, which was wonderful. The hotel offers great dining spots and an awesome view of the river. I particularly enjoyed the lobby, which features a dinosaur skeleton hanging from the ceiling.

Savannah is a beautiful city with rich history, delicious food and friendly people. I always have a great time visiting, no matter the occasion or time of year.
