Key West Travel Guide

August 31, 2018

I’ve been to Key West, Florida before but I fell in love with the city during my sister’s bachelorette trip. I originally thought Key West was just a “party town” but there’s so much more to this beautiful place than it’s nightlife.

During the day, I got to explore Key West and its gorgeous beaches. I’m looking forward to the next time I visit the Keys and super jealous of anyone going soon! Next time you are in Key West, make sure to check out these locations to make the most out of your trip.

Eat

Better Than Sex

The first night in Key West, I surprised my sister with reservations at Better Than Sex. Better Than Sex is a dessert restaurant that serves delicious, sexy cocktails and cakes. With low lighting and intimate booths, The restaurant creates the perfect atmosphere for a date night or a bachelorette party.

SALUTE!

We went to SALUTE! for dinner on Saturday. SALUTE! has wonderful food with a wonderful view. Make a reservation for 7 pm to get a great view of the sunset on the water. SALUTE! is also located in Margaritaville, so you can stop by a few shops on the way out. (And pick up some key lime pie!)

Latitudes

Latitudes is seriously the best dining experience in Key West. To get to Latitudes, a private charter will pick you up and take you to their own secluded island. You can eat inside or outside, but I suggest dining outside by the water for a delightful breeze. Reservations at Latitudes fills up fast and they only have a limited amount of seating, you should call plenty of time beforehand… about 2 weeks or even a month.

Drink

Dante’s

Looking for the perfect place to day drink in Key West? Dante’s is a beautiful pool bar (it’s free to swim) with food and drink service. On Saturdays, Dante’s can get extremely crowded so try going on a Friday instead. Definitely remember to put on sunscreen cause you’ll be spending the whole day there!

Irish Kevins

Irish Kevin’s is my all-time-favorite bar in Key West! The bar is famous in Florida with a huge indoor area, multiple bars, and live music. My secret tip to getting quicker service is heading to the bar side by the gift store… most people just head straight in and don’t look over there.

Oh, and don’t get embarrassed if the live talent decides to call you out while you walk in. It’s just his way of being friendly 😉

Rick’s

Rick’s is another great bar. It’s actually a plethora of bars squished together! There is something for everyone. If you feel like dancing, there’s a large dance floor. Rather sit instead? Plenty of outdoor seating on the top floor. Be sure to check out upstairs AND downstairs. When your night is winding down, head downstairs for a slice of pizza.

Sloppy Joes

So, on this past trip, we didn’t stop at Sloppy Joe’s for very long. However, Sloppy Joe’s is another poppin’ night spot with great entertainment and drinks. Plus, there’s a live bar cam so you can say hi to your mom whose at home while you’re getting silly! Check it out.

Stay

Southernmost Beach Resort

The Southernmost Beach Resort is a beautiful place to stay and is in the heart of downtown. The resort has gorgeous rooms and numerous amenities, including two pools to lounge at. Every morning, we walked down to their beach restaurant for breakfast. Everything is a short walk away and the place is luxurious… you can’t get better than the Southernmost!

If you are looking for something cheaper, try Airbnb. Many people in Key West rent out their spaces for extra money.

Play

Fury Sunset Cruise

The Fury Sunset Cruise was the most fun we had during the trip! A catamaran takes you into the waters of Key West for some food, drinks, and live music. The cruise is definitely one of the best ways to catch a beautiful Key West sunset.

Ernest Hemingways House

Ernest Hemingway is one of the greatest authors in history and spent 10 years living in Key West. You can visit Ernest Hemingway’s house for a small fee and learn more about his extravagant adventures.  Plus, you get to see all his adorable six-toed cats. (Yes, I said six-toed.) Over 37 cats reside on Ernest Hemingway’s property.

Southernmost Point

Key West has the southernmost point in the United States and it’s the perfect insta-worthy spot! Take a walk to the southernmost pier and check out the buoy marking the location. There are a mere 90 miles to Cuba.
