Date Night at Raleigh TreeRunner Adventure Park

June 26, 2019

Ryan and I wanted to go on a date that was a little out of the ordinary. The typical dinner date or movie night just wasn’t cutting it! We’re a very adventurous, outdoorsy couple so what better than TreeRunner Adventure Parks? It was time to experience the outdoors like never before… from up in the trees!

Summer of 2019 has been all about doing things that push me out of my comfort zone. This Summer, Ryan and I have traveled to Ireland, kayaked across various lakes, refurbished our home, and now, we are adding ziplining to our list! I am terrified of heights but I wasn’t about to let my fears stop me.

TreeRunner isn’t JUST ziplines! There are over 100 obstacles, 20 zip lines, 7 courses, and 4 different levels to explore. With varying difficulty levels, courses and elements, TreeRunner Raleigh provides an experience that anyone can enjoy. No prior climbing experience is necessary. When we arrived at the location, we were given a great safety demonstration and got to practice on the equipment before heading up. Climbers wear harnesses which are doubly secured to safety cables using the park’s “always locked on” system of interlocking safety clips.

Obstacles at TreeRunner are designed to challenge climbers both mentally and physically. These trails consist of platforms installed in the trees which are connected by various configurations of cable, wood, and rope to form crossings of different kinds including the ever-popular zip lines. You can choose their trail depending on their age and/or climbing experience. Each course took me about thirty minutes while Ryan flew through them. (He’s a show-off.) I also left a bit sore and with a couple of new bruises but that didn’t bother me. I got a great work out in while also having a great date. Win-win 😉

Each climber is allotted 3 hours of time during their session. At first, we thought that this was A LOT of time but the hours flew! There was so much to do and explore that three hours was the perfect amount of time. Besides climbing, you were also able to buy snacks and hang out by the picnic tables. We also got lucky because it was trivia night! The employees asked questions while climbers shouted out the answers from up above!

One of my goals this Summer is to be able to climb the hardest obstacle. So far, I’ve conquered easy and medium! How high do you think you’d get?

TreeRunner Raleigh Adventure Park is located on the campus of the Jewish Community Center of Raleigh at 12804 Norwood Rd. The Park is now open for the climbing season and reservations are available for climbing and group appointments. Don’t live in Raleigh? No worries! Their current holdings include two locations in Michigan and one in North Carolina. The fourth location is currently under construction on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.

Remember to wear athletic clothes and closed-toe shoes when you go! Also, leave your purse and any other belongings in the car because you can’t take it with you when you climb! We’re looking forward to going back soon. I can’t wait to get better and better each time. (Mostly so I can rub it in Ryan’s face!) TreeRunner Raleigh Adventure Park is the coolest Summer activity in the Triangle.
