10 Binge-Worthy Netflix Originals

When Netflix first came out, it took a little while for me to hop on board. Mostly because I was a broke college kid who didn’t want to pay eight dollars a month for a streaming company I was unsure of. Now, I actually have Netflix instead of cable. I barely watch television anymore because all my favorite shows can be streamed at the click of a button.

I’ve spent hours upon hours binge-watching series on Netflix. I watched all nine seasons of One Tree Hill in one month last summer. That’s talent.

However, some of the best shows you can find on Netflix are Netflix Originals! Basically meaning Netflix paid a lot of money so you can’t watch them anywhere else. The following list is filled with awesome binge-worthy Netflix Originals (…I know because I’ve already watched them all). Now, I’m just waiting for the next seasons to come out.

Did you just finish your Netflix binge and are looking for your next show? These 10 Netflix Originals will have you glued to the TV.

Grace and Frankie

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are a hilarious unlikely duo in Grace and Frankie! About the only thing that they DO have in common is that their husbands of 50+ years are leaving them —for each other. As everything around the ladies is coming apart, the only thing they can really rely on is each other. Each season gets funnier and funnier… as they try to navigate the dating world again, living together, and vibrators. Yes, vibrators. You’ll fall in love with Grace and Frankie, and their friendship.

Bill Nye Saves The World

Bill Nye and his bow ties are back! While Bill is ready to drop some knowledge on us, this is definitely not the same kid’s show we all knew and loved in the 90’s. Bill is ready to talk about some of the world’s most pressing problems like climate change, vaccinations, and sexuality. Episodes feature informative panel discussions, fun demonstrations, and reports from a wide range of special correspondents (including Karlie Kloss). He’s like a superhero in a lab coat.

13 Reasons Why

13 Reasons Why has been receiving A LOT of negativity lately and while I’m not sure how to feel about it myself, I really did enjoy binge-watching the first thirteen-hour season. I read the book when I was younger and was excited to see the characters come alive on screen. 13 Reasons Why is the story of a young woman named Hannah Baker, and what led her to suicide. Some scenes are graphic and the storyline can make you uncomfortable, but it’s important such harsh realities are discussed.

Seven Deadly Sins

I wrote off The Seven Deadly Sins at first too. Anime just isn’t my thing. But when I finally gave the show a chance, I was addicted! The story follows Princess Elizabeth and The Seven Deadly Sins to restore Brittania and defend the country against demons. The series keeps you interested and is jam-packed with action, humor, and even romance. The show is in Japanese but there is an option to watch in English (however, I liked English subtitles better). Channel your inner nerd and check it out. Plus, there’s a talking pig. What more could you ask for?

Santa Clarita Diet

Sheila is happy with her quiet life in California. She’s just your typical realtor, wife, and mom. Except, her diet consists of human brain’s… because she’s actually a zombie… The cute and quirky comedy follows Sheila’s transformation and how it affects her family. Sheila is also played by one of my favorite actors, Drew Barrymore. Go ahead, take a bite of this Netflix original 😉

Girl Boss

Girl Boss is one of Netflix’s newest original series, premiering in April 2017. Girl Boss is inspired by Sophia Amoruso’s best-selling book. This series follows the rise of Amoruso’s multi-million dollar fashion empire, Nasty Gal. However, the timing is a bit awkward since Sophia Amoruso recently resigned as CEO of Nasty Gal and filed for bankruptcy. Girlboss is a “rags to riches” story as we learn how Amoruso turned selling clothes on eBay into the next big thing. It definitely keeps you interested!

Stranger Things

If you haven’t binge-watched Stranger Things yet, what are you doing with your life? People are absolutely OBSESSED with Stranger Things and it’s totally understandable why. I’m a huge weenie and the show freaked me out a bit when I first watched it but it hooks you! You’re captivated by the small Indiana town and the search for Will. The show is made up of secret government experiments, unnerving supernatural forces, and a very unusual little girl. The second season is set to be released October 2017.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Kimmy Schmidt is my spirit animal. Rescued after 15 years in a cult, Kimmy Schmidt decides to reclaim her life by venturing to New York, where she experiences everyday life with wide-eyed enthusiasm. Every episode is filled with a new adventure —from finding a job to going back to high-school! In the first season, Kimmy rents a room from Titus,  a gay wannabe Broadway actor. With his witty remarks and diva attitude, he’s easily a fan favorite. The show was created and written by Tina Fey so you KNOW it’s hilarious.

Orange is The New Black

Piper Chapman is a public relations executive with a career and a fiance when her past suddenly catches up to her. She is sentenced to spend time in a minimum-security women’s prison where she has to adjust to life behind bars. You learn how each character ended up in prison and their eccentric personalities. Orange Is the New Black is Netflix’s most-watched original series.

Master of None

Comic Aziz Ansari and writer Alan Yang are the creators of Master of None. The show is loosely based on Ansari’s real-life experiences. Ansari plays the role of Dev, a New York-based actor who is struggling to identify what he really wants, both personally and professionally. I have always appreciated Aziz Ansari’s work and quickly jumped on Master of None when it came out.  The first season only has ten episodes so you need to catch up before season two is released later this month!
